Kandasamy starring Vikram and Shriya Saran in the lead has very special things to mention.
The movie was sold in Chennai distribution for a staggering amount of 4 Crores.
In an interview with daily newspaper ‘Dhinakaran’ director Susi Ganesan gave some of the highlights of the movie.
Q What is the reason behind this huge amount for distribution rights?
Yes that’s true! This expectation will be ever-increasing because the movie has such tagline. From hero Vikram to Heroine Shriya everyone in the crew has worked very hard to get to this level of success. Truly I believe that after this movie releases Vikram will be the number one actor and Shriya number one actress. I am not saying this because of overconfidence; I saw how much effort they put in to each session of shooting.
Q. What is the story of Kandasamy?
You will be surprised if you come to know what inspired me to direct Kandasamy. Let me explain in detail. In Jerusalem there is a box for God where you can drop in your request to God. The temple authorities will display the letters posted by downtrodden people who strongly believe that God will take care of them no matter what comes next. An idea stuck me hard and that’s when I thought why my hero can’t be a God who can fulfill poor people’s needs. That’s how Kandasamy came alive.
Q. Vikram and Shriya look absolutely fabulous in those attires and make over. How does that fashion statement happen?
During our photo shoot session itself we decided to do entirely different. Let it be our producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu or the fashion Designer Chetan understood what I want completely. We were looking for the exact impression from fashion critics ‘Dressed to kill’. Me and Chetan travelled all the way to Malaysia, picked all the fabrics for Hero and Heroine and tailored in Italy.
Q. Tell us about Vikram and Shriya’s contribution?
I must mention Vikram’s involvement in this movie. He looks young and stylish and it didn’t happen at ease, he lost few pounds to attain slimmer look. In emotional and stunt scenes Vikram always take special care to get the best. We are surprised by his makeover change and sticking with the character concept. He has many characters in the movie where one character emotions or body language does not mix with the other. So much care and effort he plants on each of his role. Shriya, do I have to tell how beautiful she looks. However in Kandasamy she does looks different and beautiful with boyish hair style and chic attitude. Her attitude is her plus point. Her fans are going to be very happy with her performance too.
Q. How did you find Singer Vikram?
‘Do you believe that it has been a long time since we had an actor who can sing in his own voice? We are well aware of the fact that in olden days every actor sang in their own voice. I was so astonished when I came to know that Vikram can even sing. So I asked him whether he can sing for Kandasamy. He frankly said that many don’t trust the singer in him. I was not satisfied with his answer so I told him that I believe in his Vocal skills. He sang four songs for Kandasamy tuned by Devi Sri Prasad, all songs well tuned for professional singers. The end product is Vikram was surprised with his talents itself. I am very proud to say that I have bought the old trend back and alive

The Master of Challenges is 43 today

What if director Bala had gone ahead with his debut venture, 'Sedhu', with Vignesh or Abishek as the lead, as he had originally planned to? What if Vikram hadn’t got that big break him so deserved after years of toil? The loss clearly was not that of struggling Kenny’s alone.
Vikram, 43 today, with an immensely successful last decade and a highly struggling patch prior to it, is the collective symbol of hope. The glint in the eyes of those who reach the shores of filmdom who hope that their hard work will make it big. Someday.
For all the hope that Vikram has instilled in actors today, he could well be considered a superhero, beyond the camera for his current film, ‘Kanthaswamy’. Here’s an actor who was only next to Kamal Haasan to say experimentation mattered, a lot more than fancy commercial flicks, titles and punch dialogues.
A National Award-winner he might me, but his films weren’t the breed of award films. There was always a 'Majaa' after an 'Anniyan', the tightrope walk always maintained. It takes courage to do that, and Vikram has displayed it more than once.
Challenges are his middle name, and he today takes on one more, playing a hero in a film and a villain in the same film for another language: in 'Raavan'. And he being picked for these roles by, arguably, our best director today, Mani Ratnam, speaks volumes of Vikram’s talent.
And even as we imagine he has his hands full in acting, he takes a plunge as a singer, singing all songs of 'Kanthaswamy', exploring unknown areas. But that’s Vikram for you, challenging himself everytime, and bettering himself with every film.
We wish this Master of Challenges a happy birthday today and a great year ahead
