ellaa segment audiencum satisfied aayitt vanna cinema drishyam mathrame kanullu..youth can relate to it as an excellent thriller, families can relate to it as a movie speaking their problems and security moviebuffs can identify with the brilliant filmmaking. fans loved the comeback of their superstar.

Ya, thats true. pakshe even if it does not cater to all, it could be a great movie. A recent example comes to mind - Piku. Youngsters may not like it that much but still is a good movie.

    The Statue Satire
    ----------------------------------

    Review - Utopiyayile Raajavu

    27/8/15 @ Pathanamthitta Dhanya

In the modern world where statutes have just become symbols, the real life problems of people around us make us realise that these symbols that we hold on are not significant at all. This is idea behind Kamal's latest movie 'Utopiyayile Raajavu'. Even though the movie adopts satire as a basic medium to convey this message, its long winding script weighs it down heavily.

P.S Rafeeque's writing has some meat especially in the initial portions of the second half. 30 minutes post interval could be regarded as the better portion of the movie. The creators have tried to adopt fantasy style in the narration to inject freshness to the proceedings. Like for example statues that come alive and talk and a graphic crow which narrates the story etc. The first half is heavily based as a satire on current political state. This may not go so well with the audience who are catered to satire on TV comedy shows every night. They are likely to compare the proceedings in the first half to such shows. Even the interval arrives after 1.5 hours which seemed quite long. By interval the intention of the movie and the script is almost clear. Just average first half.

Mammotty seems okay but the movie is based more on an ensemble cast on a whole. Sethulakshmi, Surabhi, Sreekumar do well in their roles. Jewel, KPAC Lalitha, Nandu are adequate. There is a huge star cast of supporting actors in the movie who keep popping in and out of the narrative. Kamal has made the movie decently but takes a long winding grind to say a simple story. The second half portions where C.P Swathanthran (Mammotty) realises the futility of his struggle and he gives others' fight a much needed fist is the high point of the movie.

Cinematography by Neil is good and title song by Ouseppachan is notable. Movie deserved a better edit.

To sum up, 'Utopiyayile Raajavu' has some noble thoughts and intentions in the script but it takes quite a tedious route to convey the same. By the end one may have mixed feelings. Try it if you may.
