Chelsea and Man Utd set for Community Shield

FA Community Shield: Chelsea v Man Utd
Venue: Wembley Stadium Date: Sunday, 8 August 2010 Kick-off: 1500 BST

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Chelsea will be Manchester United's biggest obstacle to winning the Premier League ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash. "They won the league and FA Cup last year and I do think you have to see the team that won the league as the ones you look at," said the United manager.
United's Michael Carrick, Anderson, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand are out.
Chelsea have named their first XI, with Didier Drogba on the bench but Petr Cech, Alex and Jose Boswinga are out.
Hilario will stand in for Czech goalkeeper Cech for Carlo Ancelotti's men, with Salomon Kalou, Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda in attack.
"I think that the players that came back [from the World Cup] are not 100% fit but they need to play," said Ancelotti.
"For this reason the Portuguese players and the English players are able to play and I will put them on the pitch on Sunday."

Meanwhile, Ferguson revealed that England striker Wayne Rooney and former international team-mate Michael Owen will feature during the match.
"Rooney and Owen definitely need to play 45 minutes on Sunday," said the 68-year-old manager.
Owen suffered a serious hamstring injury on the much-maligned Wembley turf during the League Cup final against Aston Villa last season. It scuppered his hopes of making the England World cup squad.
The 30-year-old striker is hoping he comes away from Sunday's trip to north London injury free.
"They were there doing something on the pitch when I was at Wembley recently," Owen said.
"Something new has been installed which means 10% of the turf is now synthetic. Hopefully it makes it better because the Wembley pitch must have had something to do with my injury.

Chelsea (team): Hilario, Ivanovic, Terry, Ferreira, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Mikel, Kalou, Anelka, Malouda.
    Man Utd: To follow

Chelsea confirm Carvalho to join Real Madrid

Chelsea have agreed to sell defender Ricardo Carvalho to Real Madrid for a reported fee of €8 million.
Chelsea have confirmed the two clubs have come to an agreement and Carvalho, 32, will now sign a two-year contract at the Bernabeu. Carvalho will become Real's fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following Angel Di Maria, Sergio Canales, Pedro Leon and Sami Khedira, when the deal is finalised.
A club statement read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho. The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms. Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."
At the weekend, Jose Mourinho suggested that Carvalho's advancing years meant he was unlikely to link up once again with the defender, who under the new Real coach won the 2004 Champions League with Porto and two Premier League titles with Chelsea.
However, Real saw their bid to sign Inter Milan right-back Maicon collapse and while Benfica's David Luiz and AC Milan's Thiago Silva were alternative targets, they have turned to Carvalho in an effort to improve their defence.
Carvalho, who joined Chelsea from Porto in the summer of 2004 for a fee of £19.85 million, recently claimed he has been given permission to leave Stamford Bridge and that he would go to Madrid "swimming or running", such is his desire to be reunited with Mourinho.
The Portugal international picked up a third Premier League title last season but has seen his first-team chances reduce in recent seasons, with Brazilian defender Alex finding favour under Guus Hiddink and then Carlo Ancelotti.
If Carvalho does complete his move to Real then he will join Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Deco and Juliano Belletti in leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea complete signing of Brazil midfielder Ramires:

Chelsea have completed the signing of Brazil international Ramires from Benfica on a four-year deal. The 23-year-old midfielder, who will cost the English champions about £17m, passed a medical on Friday.
"He is a fantastic player," said Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. "He will be the future of the Brazil national team and I hope the future of Chelsea."
Meanwhile, Brazilian club Santos say they will report Chelsea to Fifa for an alleged illegal approach to Neymar, 18.
The Blues have had one offer of about £16m turned down for the highly-rated striker, who scored on his international debut in midweek.

Ramires featured throughout Brazil's opening matches in South Africa, but a booking in the final group game against Portugal ruled him out of his country's quarter-final loss to the Netherlands.
He joined the Brazil set-up in 2009, in time to play in every game of the country's successful defence of their Confederations Cup title.
He helped Benfica clinch the Portuguese Liga for the first time in five years, also winning the League Cup in the process.

    Chelsea 6 - 0 West Brom

Didier Drogba scored a hat-trick as Chelsea signalled their intent to defend their Premier League title by thrashing newly-promoted West Brom. Florent Malouda struck early on from six yards before Drogba scored a free-kick on the stroke of half-time.
Drogba later pounced after a goal-line clearance and scored with a deflected strike from the edge of the area.
Frank Lampard finished an attractive move, while Malouda struck from close range on the stroke of full-time.
Chelsea, who ended last season with an 8-0 thrashing of Wigan, have now won the opening day for the last nine seasons.
And they move instantly to the top of the table after the biggest opening day victory in the history of the Premier League.
Carlo Ancelotti's team played with a confidence, skill and composure that seemingly enabled them to slice open their opponents at will.
