Conte ready to bring Inter 'back to the top'
Inter Milan have appointed former Juventus and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, the club announced Friday.
Conte replaces Luciano Spalletti,*who was sacked earlier this week after two seasons with the club. The*Nerazzurri*finished fourth in the Serie A standings on the final day of the season thanks to a 2-1 win over Empoli, qualifying for the Champions League.
Conte is reunited with highly regarded former Juventus chief executive Beppe Marotta. The pair worked closely together to lead Juventus to three consecutive league titles between 2011 and 2014 before Conte left to manage Italy and then Chelsea, where he won the Premier League title in his first season and ended his second with triumph in the FA Cup.
"A new chapter in my life is beginning, I'm really excited," Conte said in a statement on Inter's website. "I have chosen Inter because of its history. I was struck by the club's transparency and the desire to bring Inter back to where it belongs."
Conte has been out of work*since being sacked by Chelsea last summer, due in large part to a lengthy and acrimonious legal battle that ended this month with a Premier League manager's arbitration tribunal ruling in his favour.
Chelsea have been ordered to pay Conte around ?9 million -- the amount owed for the final, unfulfilled year of his contract at Stamford Bridge -- and the Italian, now free to resume his career, has returned to Serie A.
Conte's blend of touchline passion and winning tactics made him hugely popular with the majority of Chelsea supporters, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond repair, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy.
He also clashed with*Diego Costa*and*David Luiz, while others began to grow weary of his methods. In the wake of Chelsea's FA Cup win in 2018,*Willian obscured Conte in a team celebration photograph*posted on his Instagram account.
Conte's refusal to resign unless the final year of his contract was paid in full, coupled with Chelsea's delay in securing Maurizio Sarri from Napoli as his replacement, created an ugly public standoff that resulted in him leading the first few days of preseason before being sacked on July 13.
Chelsea withheld Conte's compensation, claiming that several of his actions --*including his decision to inform Costa by text message that he was no longer in his plans*-- had led him to breach his contract.
Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN FC that Conte argued that Chelsea's delay in sacking him resulted in him missing out on potential job opportunities elsewhere, with Paris Saint-Germain appointing Thomas Tuchel and Real Madrid turning to Julen Lopetegui before his departure.

Inter Striker Mauro Icardi Declines Roma But Opens Up To A Transfer To Juventus Or Napoli
Inter?s Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi, has declined AS Roma?s offer for him but has opened up to the idea of a possible transfer to Napoli or Juventus, Italian broadcaster SportMediaset report.
According to the report, Icardi has declined Roma?s offer after having already declined a move to Ateltico Madrid in La Liga. Icardi wants to play in the Champions League with Juventus primarily, which is why a swap with Dybala is the most logical solution, but he is also prepared to accept a move to Napoli as well, who have made an inquiry.
The former Nerazzurri captain is still hoping to be able to talk to newly appointed Inter coach Antonio Conte, despite the fact that the club have told him in no uncertain terms that he is no longer part of the club?s future plans.
SportMedaset report further that there will soon be a meeting between Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and Mauro Icardi?s wife/agent Wanda Nara, where Marotta will once again reiterate the club?s stance. Should that meeting go badly and neither party is willing to budge, the Nerazzurri are prepared to leave him out of the team for as long as possible.
Inter have slapped a ?60 million price tag on the former Sampdoria striker.

INTER TO FACE MANCHESTER UNITED, JUVENTUS AND TOTTENHAM IN THIS SUMMER'S ICC
NEW YORK – Inter will once again be involved in the International Champions Cup this summer. The Nerazzurri are set to take part in the tournament for the seventh time in succession after initially competing in it in 2013. Inter’s first game will be against Manchester United on Saturday 20 July in Singapore, a place where the Nerazzurri played in the 2017 edition of the tournament. On Wednesday 24 July, Inter will face Juventus before heading back to Europe to play Tottenham. The game in London will take place on Sunday 4 August.
Today, Relevent Sports Group announced the participating teams. 12 of the top teams in the world, including last year’s Champions League winners Real Madrid and other major European and Liga MX sdies, will play 18 matches across the United States, Europe and Asia. Joining Inter will be Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, AS Roma, Juventus, AC Milan, Atl?tico de Madrid, FC Bayern, Benfica and Chivas de Guadalajara.
This is a line-up which confirms that the ICC is the most important international summer football tournament. It is a regular event in the pre-season calendars of the teams belonging to the biggest European and international leagues.
The format of the tournament is the same as last year. Each team will play three matches, and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will win the championship and receive the first trophy of the season. Each win in normal time will result in three points, while matches that end in a draw will go to a penalty shootout. The winning team in a shootout will receive two points and the losing team will receive one.
Singapore pre-sale tickets will be available from 28 March to 3 April 2019, with tickets then set to go on general sale from 4 April 2019. All ticket information can be found on www.internationalchampionscup.sg.
