Development
Director, Rohit Shetty who previously director the comedy flick, Golmaal 3 (2010), did first give Ajay Devgan an offer for Golmaal 4, but Devgan said "Golmaal 4 will happen next to next year. It's necessary to have two years gap between two Golmaal films. It's not good if it comes every year.", and without Ajay Devgn the film could not go on, so Shetty delayed Golmaal 4, and announced to make Bol Bachchan also starring 41-year old Ajay Devgn.
In January 2011, it was revealed that film is a tribute to the original Gol Maal (1979) directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee with Abhishek Bachchan playing the role of Ram Prasad, essayed by Amol Palekar in the original and Ajay Devgn playing the role of Bhawani Shankar (Utpal Dutt). Asin Thottumkal was roped in for the female lead. Earlier, actress Genelia D'Souza was signed to play the second female lead, but due to her differences with the makers, she was either dropped from the project, or she walked out, a fact which is unknown.
On Jubilee Comedy Circus, Krushna Abhishek did a performance of Rohit Shetty never giving him a film role to do but having promised him in earlier seasons of the show, Rohit was so impressed by the performance, he decided to give Krushna a role in Bol Bachchan. Shetty also added Archana Puran Singh, VIP and Abhishek Avasthi from Jubilee Comedy Circus to the cast of the film.
Filming
The film went on the floors on 24 August 2011. Bol Bachchan will be shot in Jaipur and nearby locations for the next two months. The movie will likely be shot in Nahargarh, Jaigarh, City Palace, Chomu Palace and Samode Palace.

Rohit Shetty signs Archana Puran Singh, VIP and Krishna for Bol Bachchan

Rohit Shetty who was a judge on Jubilee Comedy Circus, has signed talented contestant VIP, Krishna and his co-judge in the show Archana Puran Singh for a role in his upcoming film Bol Bachchan starring Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Prachi Desai.
Rohit has always maintained that VIP and Krishna are very talented and he is now living up to his word. The filmmaker has managed to find a role that Archana, Krishna and VIP will fit into.
The workaholic director has started the shoot of the film in Jaipur from 24th August with Abhishek Bachchan and others. Ajay Devgn will be joining the team today.
Bol Bachchan is slated to release in July 2012.
Shooting of 'Bol Bachchan' starts in Jaipur
Jaipur: People can be seen enjoying eating snacks. There are about 30-40 snack stalls. Abhishek Bachchan has got injured while he was shooting for his upcoming film, ‘Bol Bachchan’ in Jaipur. Abhishek was performing a stunt for the movie when he fell down from a rickshaw.
The actor has got about seven to eight stitches on his forehead. Rohit Shetty, the director of ‘Bol Bachchan’ has cancelled the shooting after Abhishek got injured. When asked about the accident, Rohit said, “Abhishek got injured while performing the stunt, but he is fine now.”
‘Bol Bachchan’ is written and directed by Rohit Shetty and it also stars actors like Ajay Devgn, Asin, Prachi Desai and Archana Puran Singh.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan, who got injured while shooting for a film and received six stitches above his right eye, is doing well, says his father Amitabh Bachchan.
Abhishek was injured Wednesday on the sets of Rohit Shetty's 'Bol Bachchan' in Jaipur.
"Abhishek looks better and seems to repair fast enough... thank god!! But to all those that SMSed in on his condition... thank you," Big B posted on his Twitter account.
"Bol Bachchan" also stars Ajay Devgn, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai.
