SAMEERA IS SANDALWOOD’S HIGHEST PAID ACTOR
The actor is reportedly being paid much more for her Kannada debut than her last Tamil film, Vettai
It is a known fact that Bollywood starlet Sameera Reddy has a bigger market in the south than in Mumbai. And with her entry into the Kannada film industry with Varadhanayaka, she has earned the title of Sandalwood’s highest paid actor. In fact, it is being reported that she has been paid more for her Kannada maiden venture than her last Kollywood flick, Vettai.
The actor, sources say, was apparently paid 35 lakh for her role in the Lingusamy film. And this was said to have been her biggest signing amount till date. But with Kannada producer Shankar Gowda’s Varadhanayaka signing her opposite Sudeep, it looks like Sameera’s lucky stars are shining bright. Sources say that she has been paid an astronomical sum by the makers for her consent to do the film.
When quizzed about Sameera’s remuneration, Shankar says, “Yes, she is the highest paid Kannada actor today, though I cannot reveal the amount I am paying her.” But when asked if he had paid her more than 35 lakh, he admitted, “Yes, she did get more than that.”
When it comes to the highest-paid heroines in Sandalwood, the list so far includes Nayanthara (who is reported to have gotten more than 50 lakh for Upendra’s Super), Ramya (who is rumoured to earn above 40 lakh per flick) and Priya Mani (who is rumoured to get around 30 lakh). Now this makes us wonder how much Sameera actually got paid for this film.

Surprises at Karnataka State Film Awards
The biggest surprise of the 2010-2011 state awards is keeping away the art films like ‘Bettada Jeeva’ and ‘Byaari’ and top stars wonderful performances. In the race for the best actress Ramya for ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’ and Radhika Pandit for ‘Krishnan Love Story’ were superseded by newcomer to cinema from television serials Kalyani. It was a ‘Suicide’ Kannada film Kalyani acted got the state award surprised the actress very much. The animation film for the first time in Kannada filmdom ‘Chintu School’ deserved the special award and ‘Prarthane’ declared now is of course a deserving award as the film speaks on the existence of Kannada language.
When one look at the BJP ruled government – the award coming for ‘Super’ is surprising. There is a deliberate attempt to cajole former Karnataka chief minister of BJP BS Yediyurappa. A look alike of BS Yediyurappa is introduced in this film and shown as a buffoon. The trouble shooters have been silenced is another clever thought of Dr Bharathi Vishnuvardhana committee. Agni Sridhar, B Suresha and Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa all attackers have got one award each.
Ashok Kashyap representing the camera department was in the committee and he was kept out while discussion on ‘Super’ Kannada cinema was made. He is the cameraman of that super hit ‘Super’ film.A commercial film like Sanju Weds Geetha grabbed maximum awards in the cinematography, sound recording, and Editing divisions.
