Rising Indian shuttler PV Sindhu pulled off the biggest upset of her career when she stunned London Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui of China to storm into the women's singles semifinals of the Li Ning China Masters Super Series badminton tournament here today.

World number 24 Sindhu, who is the lone Indian woman in the fray in the absence of star compatriot Saina Nehwal, won 21-19 9-21 21-16 in a tense 45-minute contest against the second seeded and world number three Chinese.

Sindhu, who has earned the reputation of a giant-killer, turned out to be more aggressive than her fancied opponent as she went on to hit as many as 26 smash winners as opposed to 20 by the Chinese. The net game was a close affair as the Indian had nine points to the Chinese's eight.

This was Sindhu's biggest win in her career.

MP Sachin wants to help sports in schools - Indian Express

Four months after entering Rajya Sabha, Sachin Tendulkar has written his first letter as MP on a matter of national interest. He has expressed concern over the neglect of sports in India’s educational institutions and offered to help inculcate a sporting culture among children and the youth.
Sachin wrote to Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal last week, proposing ways to integrate sports in the education system, and expressing a desire to work with the government on the project. The HRD ministry has invited him to make a detailed presentation, following which modalities can be worked out.
“We welcome Sachin Tendulkar’s proposal and I have already written to him inviting him for a presentation so that the details can be talked through. Once that is done we will ask both CBSE and NCERT to look into how sports can be made an integral part of the school curriculum”, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal told The Indian Express.
