There are movies which we like, there are movies which we hate, there are movies which excites us, there are movies which inspire us and there are movies which we absolutely love and Ok kanmani is one of those movies which we love.
This movie like many other kicks off at mumbai railway station where Adi meets Tara for the first time when she teases her ex boyfriend to jump in front of a train. But its their second meeting at a friend's marriage that sets up their relationship. Their relationship develops from there on based on a shared belief that marriage are for fools. Rest of the movie is a chain of moments on how they grow in their relationship and how it changes the way they look at their life.
The story might sound familiar and there is nothing new in that aspect. But its the execution that delivered big time. Mani, ARR and P.C. Sreeram worked really well as a team and created magic in the screen. Technical side is top notch. Sreeram presented the life of Mumbai and its beauty with elan. His lighting and aesthetic sense has taken the movie to an another level. ARR's music is refreshing, youthful and endearing. BGM blended very well with the situations and made Adi's and Tara's love magical.
Another aspect of the movie which needs special mention is the dialogues. Dialogues were novel, endearing and realistic for most part of the movie. charm of dialogues helped the characters who delivered it to come up with their best.
But its the Mani's mastery and creativity that brings all of them together. Its amazing how Mani could resonate with the vibe of present generation. He presented their emotions and perspective about life as if he is still 25. Best thing is that he is very clear on what he want to convey and how he want to convey.
Acting side matched up with the heavy weights in the technical department and at times over shadowed them. Prakash Raj came up with a subtle performance as a caring husband and jelled well with the performace of leela samson who played the nuances of an alzheimer's patient with subtleness. Their parallel story which acts an inspiration for Adi's and Tara's relationship is filled with warmth, care and pure love.
Dulquer came up with one of the best performance in his carrier if not his best. He played Adi with such ease that we can't think of any other actor for that role. Now we comes to the real show stealer of this movie, its Nithya and its her performance that glued me to the seat from start to finish. She was beautiful, realistic and subtle from the word go. It was such a delight to watch her in the screen. The screen chemistry between Dulquer and Nithya was magical and done wonders for this movie.
All in all OK Kanmani is a movie which happens once in a while. Its a movie in which all the aspects come up together and creates magic in the screen. Its a movie which can be cherished, loved and savoured for a very long time.
My Rating : 4.5/5.
