Cinema: Balaji Movieplex, Koperkhairane
Status : around 30%
Plot: Nothing in particular. There is a storyline, which serves the purpose of knitting all the scenes together and giving the movie a conclusion. Its about three carefree friends whose ambition in life is to visit Pattaya for obvious reasons. Another plot, a more serious one featuring a serial offender, rears its head now and then giving enough pointers to where things are headed. Their paths collide, changing their lives.
First half was decent, but everything didn't work for me. There are some jokes that make you laugh, then there are some that fall flat. Second half doesn't bore you and the climax is decent. I wouldn't say its outright entertaining, but it is watchable.
I didn't really like the way the out of state workers were shown as the cause for the rising crime rates, especially when we mallus are no pure souls. But the director/writer gives a fitting justification for all that and I liked the illogical climax.
The action scenes were good. Asif's intro and the bike stunts standout, along with some of the moves in the climax fight. Songs were decent, but could have been avoided. There are some characters and scenes which reminded me of Nadirsha's quotes about watching all mass masala entertainers and picking up scenes that audience love. Pity that he didn't think about having some connection between them.
Initial reviews suggested another Indran special, but its Pritvi who stands tall, delivering his best performance in a comedy oriented role. He has improved so much since Teja Bhai and it shows. He easily outscored everyone in the movie and has the best scenes. The way he imitated Sasi Kalinga and Mohanlal were genuinely funny, and it is he who shines. No mean feat considering that he had Jayasurya and Indran alongside him. Not that Indran wasn't good, both his singing performances were entertaining in particular. Jayasurya was good. No one else stood out.
Some good, some bad -Its a mixed bag.
Rating: Average, 2.5/5
It wouldn't be a surprise if it has a hugely successful BO run, after all Dileep has done it for many years. Maybe its Pritvi's time now. Eagerly waiting for the reviews of all those PR fans who called Dileep a joker and were the crusaders of quality above BO performance until recently
