Paul Schrader's #First Reformed is about a grieving reverend,Played by Ethan hawke who faces an existential dilemma between the faith as tradional christianity teaches and the way the new capitalist economy makes profit from it..After quitting out as a militant he decides to work in a first reformed church for finding a diff perspective on faith and hope...then he meets up with a radical environmentalist who challenges his view about religion and nature...He asked question like what would he do if his daughter asks him Why you gave me birth to the tragic world...what should be the condition of earth in 2050..So his perspectives gets challenged by that person and that man's sudden suicide and his physical issues leads him to tottal despair and Lack of faith in a absurd world...
well written and well performed one..Ethan Hawke has delivered a soulful perfo in the movie...Climax portion could have been a little more clearer..Movie has some shades of Bergmans winter light...Anyway Good one...:)
