Adam Joan - "Decent Emotional Thriller"
Rating - 3/5
Review
____
Jinu V Abraham has earlier penned screenplays for two Prithviraj films in the past namely 'Masters' and 'London Bridge',both which failed to make it big at the Mollywood box-office.With 'Adam Joan' we get to see Jinu trying his luck at direction, the result being an average emotional thriller that consign more emphasize to emotions rather than thrills.
The movie scores with regard to rich visuals, good performances and heart-rending emotional one-liners,but struggles when it comes to offering enough thrills to call it a taut thriller. The presentation by Jinu is stylish and technically sound with its share of highs and lows that shoots up at regular intervals in the narrative.
The screenplay by Jinu is to a degree overdrawn and one cannot deny the fact that 160 minutes is pretty long for a movie that belong to the thriller genre.Atleast a 30 minutes of the movie could have been easily trimmed off without harming the storyline and it is this odd 30 minutes that make the film look overly-stretched especially in the second half where it looks stuck for some time without any progress as far as Adam's chase is concerned.
On the brighter side, there is nevertheless a hearty emotional connect that the movie offers which make it a satisfactory experience, thanks to well-written dialogues and brilliant lead performance from Prithviraj Sukumaran.Families in particular will love this emotional element of the movie that's sure to make Adam Joan a major success at the Onam box-office.
As cited above,Prithviraj was at his awesome best playing the title character with utmost dedication and genuinity. The english actors's performance were surprisingly good unlike many Indie films set in the west.Narein gave a notable performance after a long time.Bhavana,Rahul Madhhav ,Mishti etc played their part well.
The best thing about the movie is undoubtedly the exquisite visuals by Jithu Damodar who has managed to capture the Scottish beauty in each of his frames right from the word go.The frames along with peculiar color tint managed to compliment the mystic theme that the movie presented.Editing part could have been handled much better.Songs by Deepak Dev were melodious and utilized well in the narrative. Background Score wasn't anything exceptional.
Final Word - With a predictable climax and lethargic narrative,Adam Joan ends up as an average thriller that can surely provide a satisfactory experience if you go with low expectations!
