    🌏🏆⚽🥅 2022 FIFA Football WORLD CUP - QATAR 2022 🥅⚽🏆🌏

The 2022 FIFA World Cup (Arabic: 2022 كأس العالم لكرة القدم‎, Kaʾs al-ʿālam li-kurat al-qadam 2022) is scheduled to be the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's association football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022.

FIFA's six continental confederations organise their own qualifying competitions. All FIFA member associations, of which there are currently 211, are eligible to enter qualification. Qatar, as hosts, qualified automatically for the tournament. However, Qatar is obliged by the AFC to participate in the Asian qualifying stage as the first two rounds also act as qualification for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.[27] If the Qataris reach the final stage as winners in their group or as one of the four best runners-up, the fifth-best team will advance instead. The reigning World Cup champions France will also go through qualifying stages as normal.
The allocation of slots for each confederation was discussed by the FIFA Executive Committee on 30 May 2015 in Zόrich after the FIFA Congress. The committee decided that the same allocation as 2006 would be kept for the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 tournaments:
    CAF (Africa): 5

AFC (Asia): 4.5 (not including host nation)

    UEFA (Europe): 13

CONCACAF (North and Central America and Caribbean): 3.5

    OFC (Oceania): 0.5

    CONMEBOL (South America): 4.5

The opening two rounds of qualifying also serve as qualification for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Therefore, Qatar, the 2022 FIFA World Cup host, only participates in these first two rounds of qualifying.[13]

The qualification structure is as follows:[14]

First round: 12 teams (ranked 35–46) played home-and-away over two legs. The six winners advanced to the second round.

Second round: 40 teams (ranked 1–34, including Qatar as the host, and the 6 winners from the first round) were divided into eight groups of five teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The eight group winners and the four best group runners-up advance to the third round of FIFA World Cup qualification and also qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. If Qatar finish as winners in their group or as one of the four best runners-up, the fifth-best runners-up will go to the third round in their stead.[4]

Third round: The 12 teams that advance from the second round will be divided into two groups of 6 teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The top two teams of each group will qualify for the World Cup, and the third-placed teams will play against each other over two legs. The winner will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs, playing a team from a confederation to be determined.

    CAF

CAF announced on 10 July 2019 a reversion to the format used for its 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification competition.[15]

First round: 28 teams (ranked 27–54) played home-and-away over two legs. The 14 winners advanced to the second round.

Second round: 40 teams (teams ranked 1–26 and 14 first round winners) will be divided into 10 groups of four teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The 10 group winners will advance to the third round.

Third round: The 10 teams that advance from the second round will play home-and-away over two legs. The five winners will qualify for the World Cup.

Viacom18 acquires FIFA World Cup 2022 media rights for Rs 450 crore: Report | SportsMint Media

Viacom18 Media had also received fresh TV channel licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Viacom18 has reportedly bagged the rights of the FIFA World Cup 2022 for a whopping amount of Rs 450 crore, which is to be held in Qatar.
According to various sources, the Reliance-backed entertainment network had been in the race for acquiring the media rights of the World Cup for quite some time. The new reports suggest that Viacom18 has been able to do so by bidding higher than Sony, Star, and the other bidders in the race.
Viacom18 acquiring the rights of the FIFA World Cup has been considered quite a smart move. This is the first time an Arab state will be hosting the football World Cup. An Asian country hosting the World Cup will be highly profitable as India is just 2 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Qatar, without much time difference, the Mukesh Ambani-backed organization can cater to a larger audience from the Indian subcontinent.
They’ll also be able to leverage on getting various sponsorships and brand deals ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to various sources, Viacom18 Media had also received fresh TV channel licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). It’s likely that Viacom18 will soon be launching its own new sports channel and could broadcast the FIFA World Cup on it.
Additionally, they would also gain from the stronghold that they have on the OTT platforms such as Jio TV and Voot, which will help them to attract the younger audience.

    CONCACAFEdit

Main article:*2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONCACAF)

    Original formatEdit

CONCACAF initially announced on 10 July 2019 a restructured format for the qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.[16]*It was planned to commence in September 2020.

Top-seeded Hexagonal group: The top 6 ranked CONCACAF teams based on the*FIFA rankings*of June 2020 would have played home-and-away round-robin matches in one single group (often referred to as the "Hexagonal"). The top three teams were to qualify for the World Cup, and the fourth-placed team was to advance to the CONCACAF play-off round.

Lower-seeded group stage and knockout stage: The remaining CONCACAF teams (ranked 7 to 35 also based on the FIFA rankings of June 2020) would have been divided into eight groups (five groups of four teams and three groups of three teams) to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The winners of each group were to advance to a knockout stage, consisting of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final to be played in a*two-legged*home-and-away series. The winner of the knockout stage was to advance to the CONCACAF play-off round.

Play-off round: The fourth-placed team of the Hexagonal group would have faced the winner of the knockout stage in order to advance to the*inter-confederation play-offs.

However, on 25 June 2020, following FIFA's decision to postpone the September international window due to the*COVID-19 pandemic, CONCACAF noted that "The challenges presented by postponements to the football calendar, and the incomplete FIFA rankings cycle in our confederation, means our current World Cup qualifying process has been compromised and will be changed."[17]

    New formatEdit

On 27 July 2020, CONCACAF announced a new qualifying format for the World Cup.[18]

First round: CONCACAF teams ranked 6 to 35 based on the FIFA rankings of July 2020 were drawn into six groups of five and will play single round-robin matches (two home and two away), with group winners qualifying for the second round.

Second round: The six first round group winners will play in a two-legged home-and-away series. The three winners will advance to the final round.

Final round: The three second round winners will join the top five CONCACAF teams (Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras[19]) also based on the FIFA rankings of July 2020 and play home-and-away round-robin matches in one single group. The top three teams qualify for the World Cup, and the fourth-placed team advances to the inter-confederation play-offs.

    CONMEBOL

The CONMEBOL Council decided on 24 January 2019 to maintain the same qualification structure used for the previous six tournaments.[20] From October 2020 to June 2022 (previously scheduled March 2020 to November 2021, but later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic), all of ten CONMEBOL teams will play in a league of home-and-away round-robin matches. The top four teams qualify for the World Cup, and the fifth-placed team advances to the inter-confederation play-offs.

    OFC

Qualifying was expected to begin in September 2020,[21] but the FIFA international window in that month for the OFC was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[22]

On 28 July 2020, the OFC announced that they had submitted a proposal to FIFA for the qualifiers in response to the pandemic.[23]

First round: The 11 OFC teams will be split into two groups based on their FIFA Ranking, and play round-robin matches in March and June 2021 at centralized locations. The top two teams of each group advance to the second round.

Second round: The four teams will play knockout two-legged home-and-away matches, with the semi-finals in September 2021 and the final in October. The winner advances to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Germany become the first team to qualify for Qatar 2022 World Cup

Goals for Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Jamal Musiala - coupled with defeat for Armenia against Romania - means that Hansi Flick's side are through
Germany have become the first nation to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after running out comfortable 4-0 winners against North Macedonia in UEFA Group J.
Hansi Flick's side booked their spot in the Middle East for next season's showpiece tournament, having cruised through their qualification campaign with relative ease.
Now, they can look forward to discovering who they will face just over a year from now, as they look to recapture their Brazil 2014 success eight years on after a frustrating Euro 2020.
    How did Germany qualify?

Heading into Monday's match in Group J, Flick and company needed only to defeat their hosts in Skopje and hope that Armenia dropped points against Romania elsewhere.
On the road, the visitors held up their end of the bargain, with goals for Chelsea duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, plus a first finish for Jamal Musiala, seeing off any chance of a second upset after their reverse loss in March.
With the Tricolours elsewhere managing to pick up a win against the Mountaineers, it confirmed Germany's place - and helped Flick clear his first major test in charge of the national team.

    UEFA

The draw for the first round (group stage) will be held in Zόrich, Switzerland on 7 December 2020, 18:00 CET (UTC+1).[24] However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the draw will be held as a virtual event without any representatives of member associations present. It was originally planned to be held on 29 November.[25] On 18 June 2020, the UEFA Executive Committee approved the draw regulations for the qualifying group stage.[26] The 55 teams will be seeded into six pots based on the FIFA World Rankings of November 2020, after the league phase of the 2020–21 UEFA Nations League.

The qualification format was confirmed by the UEFA Executive Committee during their meeting in Nyon, Switzerland on 4 December 2019.[27][28] The qualification will depend, in part, on results from the 2020–21 UEFA Nations League, although to a lesser degree than UEFA Euro 2020. The structure maintained UEFA's usual 'group stage/playoff stage' structure, with only the specific format of the play-offs amended.[29]

First round (group stage): 10 groups of 5 or 6 teams with group winners qualifying for the World Cup finals. The 4 teams in the 2021 UEFA Nations League Finals (France, Belgium, Italy and Spain) will be put into the smaller groups.

Second round (play-off stage): The 10 group runners-up would be joined by the best 2 Nations League group winners, based on the Nations League overall ranking, that finished outside the top two of their qualifying group. These 12 teams will be drawn into three play-off paths, playing two rounds of single-match play-offs (semi-finals and finals, with the home teams to be drawn), with the 3 path winners qualifying for the World Cup.
