#Deva: DISAPPOINTING.
Rating: 2/5
Engaging in parts with some brilliantly executed sequences... Lengthy first half, uneven, slow-paced second half... Inconsistent writing is a flaw... #ShahidKapoor is outstanding, among his best works. #DevaReview
Director #RosshanAndrrews is a superior storyteller and his craft shines at several moments. However, the writing lets him down, particularly in the second half. Even as the mystery unfolds, it lacks the element of surprise - you see it coming.
A few subplots feel half-baked, including the romantic track between #ShahidKapoor and #PoojaHegde... Even the two episodes featuring #ShahidKapoor and #GirishKulkarni [politician], though smashing, seem underdeveloped.
It is #ShahidKapoor's bravura performance that partially redeems the film, with his raw, rugged charm leaving a lasting impact. The energy he exudes in the opening dance track is electrifying.
#PavailGulati and #PravesshRana deliver commendable performances... #PoojaHegde is underutilized... #UpendraLimaye, in a cameo, is superb.
Plusses:
* #ShahidKapoor's fantastic performance.
* Several brilliantly executed moments.
Minusses:
* Erratic screenplay that lacks grip.
* An extremely heavy and intense narrative with no relief.
* Slow-paced second half.
Final word? #Deva is a missed opportunity... It had the potential to join the ranks of memorable cop films - #Singham [#AjayDevgn], #Dabangg [#SalmanKhan],#RowdyRathore - #Sooryavanshi [#AkshayKumar] and #Simmba [#RanveerSingh] - but ultimately falls short.
